Fingerprint Scanners: Are They Secure?

Over the past few years, fingerprint scanners have started to appear in many public places. They are often found in highly-secured buildings, including police stations, luxury apartments, and airports. These fingerprint scanners are one of biometric input devices that verify identity with personal characteristics. Other biometric input includes face recognition, hand, geometry, voice verification, signature, and eye scan.

So can we really say that these fingerprint scanners are really secure? Yes, they actually work. Since fingerprints are unique to each body and extremely complex in patterns, it is justifiable to say that they are generally very secure. Only you can use your fingerprint. Also, it is very convenient in that you do not have to keep in mind to carry around it, as you do with your keys or security cards. There is no possibility of forgetting or "losing" your fingerprint. However, fingerprint scanners can be risky in times, if someone gets a "copy" of someone else's fingerprint and use it to gain access to highly secure files.
